The Gift of Education
Sponsorships provide financial assistance for educational purposes to children in remote areas of Choluteca, Honduras. Sponsorships are necessary because most of the children are very poor and cannot afford school clothes and supplies to attend public school. The alternative is to work in fields, make bricks or worse - nothing! This year we hope to provide sponsorships for 109 children from the seven churches of The Way and The Truth.
$125 WILL SPONSOR ONE CHILD FOR ONE YEAR!
What does $125 per year cover?
Kindergarten (Pre-Primary): This is a huge aspect of our program. Students learn from volunteer teachers from the churches very basic reading and writing skills, how to interact with other students, and preparation for 1st grade: These teachers receive a small stipend for their efforts and classrooms are (usually in the church or Sunday School rooms). Books and supplies are provided with these funds.
1st - 9th grade (Primary School): School books, uniforms, and supplies
10th - 12th grade: (High or Secondary School) School books, supplies and some expenses
Facts about the program and the importance of your support:
- If children cannot afford their uniforms or books, they are not allowed to attend school.
- The Honduras government provides free school up to the 9th grade, only if a child can afford a uniform and books.
- In Honduras, when a child completes the 6th grade, they will frequently drop out.
- Some outlying areas where the churches are located provide education through 9th grade. Attendance in High School requires travel into a nearby city or town.
- Drop-out rates are high because students need to work to bring income to their families.
- High School is more like vocational school, focusing on the students’ abilities and interests.

A Message from a Primary School Headmaster
I have seen a dramatic change in the community. Your help has not only enriched the Church of El Camino y La Verdad, but all the people in the surrounding area. There is tremendous growth in the number of children that have been given the opportunity for an education. These children are so proud of the fact that they have the uniforms, backpacks, and school supplies that are necessary for them to attend school. If not for these contributions, the children would have no hope for an education as their parents cannot afford to send them to school.
The children here have been changed because they suddenly have something other than the hope to be a great brick maker. It is difficult to know that there are children standing in the mud which consumes not only their bodies that are drained from the heat and hard work, but also their minds are left with no energy to learn. These elementary age children had souls that felt hopeless in their circumstance. Now there is hope, an ability to alter their future. Your presence and gifts have renewed the souls of our community.
